How To Care For Your Philodendron Narrow Houseplant

Also known as the Tiger Tooth Plant, Sharks Tooth and who knows what else, the Philodendron Narrow is a very popular houseplant for several reasons. It is easy to grow, has striking foliage and a unique appearance that should allow it to stand out in your home jungle.

Light
Philodendron Narrow prefers bright, indirect light. Filtered light works really well, but I don’t know anyone who keeps sheer curtains closed all day. Or still has them in their house. I’m getting distracted. If the room you want to keep it in gets direct sunlight, just don’t sit it by the window. The light reflecting around the room should be plenty.

Water
Philodendron Narrow prefers consistently moist soil but should not be overwatered. Check the soil moisture by sticking your finger about an inch into the pot. If it feels dry, you can water the plant. Use lukewarm water to avoid shocking the roots.

Soil
A well-draining potting mix is essential for Philodendron Narrow. Nothing too fancy, add some perlite and wood chips to normal houseplant soil.

Temperature and Humidity
Philodendron Narrow will do just fine in normal household temperatures. So avoid placing anywhere too cold or drafty, as consistent temperatures are better for it. It doesn’t require regular misting, but it is a nice way to keep the long green leaves clean and dust free.

Fertilising
Like most houseplants, it will benefit from some plant food during the late spring and summer growing seasons. This helps replenish the nutrients in the soil that the plant has used up.

Pruning
Philodendron Narrow can be pruned to maintain its shape or to encourage new growth. Simply pinch back any stems that are becoming too long.

Troubleshooting
* Yellowing leaves: This could be a sign of overwatering or underwatering. Check the soil moisture and adjust your watering schedule accordingly.
* Brown leaf tips: This is often caused by low humidity. Mist the plant more frequently or use a humidifier.
* Slow growth: Ensure your plant is receiving enough light and is not being overwatered.
With proper care, your Philodendron Narrow will thrive and add a touch of greenery to your home.
