Rattlesnake Plant

Ready to add a bit of wild, yet super chic, texture to your collection? Meet the Calathea Lancifolia, or the Rattlesnake Plant! This stunner stands out with its unique, long, wavy leaves that feature an awesome, repeated pattern of dark green ovals and splodges on a lighter background. Flip it over, and you get that signature Calathea burgundy underside, just for a dramatic flourish.
It gets its snappy nickname from the shape and markings of its foliage, but don't worry—it’s entirely non-venomous and perfectly safe to have around (unlike a real rattlesnake, which we definitely don't sell). It's another member of the Prayer Plant crew, meaning its leaves move throughout the day, following the light, which is always a treat to watch.
Why You'll Love It:
-
Seriously Textural: Those long, lance-shaped leaves add amazing structure and movement.
-
Intricate Design: The 'rattlesnake' pattern is both exotic and totally stylish.
-
Leaf Ballet: It lifts and lowers its leaves daily, proving it's definitely alive!
-
Pet-Friendly: Safe for your curious cats and dogs.
Care Tips at a Glance:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is key. Too much sun equals faded colours and crispy leaves. Too little, and the growth slows down dramatically.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently, gently moist. It hates being dry and it hates being soggy. Use lukewarm, filtered water if you can, to keep those delicate leaf tips perfect.
-
Humidity: Essential! This Calathea demands high humidity to prevent those long, lovely tips from turning brown. Misting, grouping, or a humidifier is highly recommended.
-
Toxicity: Totally non-toxic to pets! A winner all around.
