Calathea Medallion
Calathea Medallion
Description The Calathea Medallion is a striking houseplant with large, oval-shaped leaves that feature a beautiful pattern of dark green and silvery-gray markings. Its unique foliage and elegant appearance make it a popular choice for indoor decor.
Plant Size This plant is sold in a 12cm nursery pot and ranges from 30-40cm tall.
It can grow up to 90cm tall and wide, depending on the growing conditions.
Ideal Light Calatheas prefer bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Low light conditions can cause the plant to lose its vibrant color.
Care Tips
- Watering: Water your Calathea Medallion regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Use lukewarm water and avoid using cold water, as it can shock the plant.
- Humidity: Calatheas thrive in high humidity environments. Mist the leaves regularly or use a humidifier to maintain optimal humidity levels.
- Temperature: The ideal temperature range for this plant is between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- Fertilizing: Feed your Calathea Medallion with a diluted liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix that retains moisture. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark can work well.
- Potting: Repot your Calathea Medallion every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a pot that is slightly larger than the current one.
Additional Tips:
- Calatheas are sensitive to fluoride in tap water. Use filtered or rainwater to avoid leaf tip burn.
- Avoid disturbing the roots too much when repotting, as this can stress the plant.
- Calatheas are known for their prayer plant behavior, folding their leaves at night and opening them in the morning.
Please note: I have multiple of these plants in my plant nursery, the one in the photographs is not the one you will receive. But you will receive one that I am proud of. Also, it will be sold in the nursery pot, any other plant pots in pictures were just for styling.
