The ultimate houseplant for the serial plant killer. If you manage to finish this one off, we might need to have a serious chat.
Say hello to the Sansevieria Superba. It brings all the bold, architectural drama of a standard Snake Plant but with slightly wider, twisted leaves beautifully edged in bright yellow. It looks like it belongs in a sleek design magazine, but in reality, it is the most laid back plant you will ever own. It actively thrives on being completely ignored.
Sitting in a tidy 12cm pot, it is the perfect size to tuck into a corner, pop on a bedside table, or use to brighten up your desk. As a brilliant bonus, it is an absolute machine at purifying the air while you sleep.
How to keep it happy:
-
Light: It really does not care. It will be perfectly happy soaking up bright, indirect light, but it is totally chill sitting in a dark, shady corner of your flat where most other plants would give up.
-
Water: Treat it mean to keep it keen. You must let the soil dry out completely between waterings. We are entirely serious, let it get as dry as a bone. If you water this more than once every few weeks, you will kill it with kindness.
-
Humidity: Totally unfussy. It will not even blink at the dry air from your winter central heating.
Troubleshooting:
-
Mushy, yellowing leaves at the base? Step away from the watering can! This is the classic sign of root rot from overwatering. Let it dry out completely before you even look at it again.
-
Wrinkled, slightly floppy leaves? Congratulations, you have actually managed to make it thirsty. Give it a good soak and let it drain thoroughly.
Pet Safety: Not Pet Safe. While it is a great air purifier for humans, it is mildly toxic to pets if eaten. Keep it out of reach of nibbling cats and dogs.
